A complete overview of all subsidies, tax benefits and financial schemes for home batteries in the Netherlands. Discover how much you can save on your investment.
If you're considering purchasing a home battery, you naturally want to know which financial schemes are available to make the investment more affordable. In 2026 there are various subsidies, tax benefits and local schemes that can significantly reduce purchase costs. In this article we lay everything out clearly, from national subsidies to municipal programmes.
The timing is especially relevant: the net metering scheme ends completely on 1 January 2027. This means that from that moment you can no longer use net metering and your returned electricity will be worth much less. A home battery is then no longer a luxury but a necessity to get the most out of your solar panels. The sooner you invest, the more you benefit from available subsidies and the faster you recoup the investment.
Important: The net metering scheme ends completely on 1 January 2027. This is not a gradual phase-out, but a complete stop. Without a home battery you lose up to 70% of the value of your generated solar electricity. Combine subsidies smartly and invest now to benefit maximally.
Below you'll find an overview of all available financial schemes for home batteries in 2026. Amounts and availability may vary by situation.
Good to know: most schemes are stackable. This means you can combine the ISDE subsidy, the 0% VAT rate and a provincial subsidy, for example. This means the total benefit can add up to ā¬3,000 to ā¬5,000 on an average home battery.
The ISDE (Investment Subsidy for Sustainable Energy and Energy Conservation) is the most important national subsidy for home batteries in 2026. This subsidy is granted by the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO) and is intended to encourage homeowners to invest in sustainable energy.
The ISDE subsidy amount for home batteries in 2026 has been set at a fixed amount per kWh of storage capacity. The exact amount depends on the capacity of your system:
The maximum subsidy amount is capped at approximately ā¬950 per property. Please note that the annual ISDE budget is limited. When the budget is exhausted, no new applications will be approved. It is therefore advisable to submit your application as soon as possible.
Tip: Submit your ISDE application within 6 months of installing your home battery. You will need the invoice, the installation certificate and the product specifications. Do this via mijn.rvo.nl.
The 0% VAT rate on solar panels and associated home batteries is in practice the biggest financial benefit for most homeowners. Since 2023, you pay 0% VAT on the purchase and installation of solar panels, and this also applies to home batteries that are directly connected to the solar panel system.
| Scheme | Type | Benefit |
|---|---|---|
| ISDE subsidy | National | Up to ~ā¬950 |
| Available (limited budget) | 0% VAT rate | National |
| 21% discount on purchase | Active (when connected to solar panels) | Provincial subsidy |
The VAT benefit is simple to calculate: you save 21% on the total purchase and installation costs. For a ā¬4,000 home battery this saves you ā¬840. For a larger ā¬7,000 system you save as much as ā¬1,470. This is the difference between the standard 21% VAT and the special 0% rate.
Condition: the home battery must be installed on or near a residence and connected to solar panels. The supplier applies the 0% rate directly on the invoice, so you don't need to apply for anything yourself. See our overview of home battery costs for current prices excluding VAT.
Please note: All prices on our website are already excluding VAT (0% rate). You pay exactly the amount you see, with no hidden VAT costs. This applies as long as your battery is connected to solar panels.
In addition to national schemes, various provinces offer their own subsidies for home batteries and other sustainable energy measures. These schemes vary greatly by province in terms of amount, conditions and availability. Below is an overview of the main provincial schemes in 2026.
The province of North Holland offers subsidies for energy-saving measures through the Sustainability Fund. Home batteries may qualify in some cases. The subsidy amount can be up to ā¬1,000, depending on the system capacity and combination with other sustainability measures.

South Holland has an active programme for the energy transition. Through various schemes, homeowners can apply for subsidies for battery storage in combination with solar panels. Amounts range from ā¬500 to ā¬1,500.
The province of North Brabant is a frontrunner with incentive schemes for home batteries. Through the provincial sustainable energy subsidy, residents can receive up to ā¬1,000. Additionally, there are partnerships with local energy cooperatives that offer extra discounts.
Gelderland offers financial support for home storage through the 'Gelders Energieakkoord' programme. The subsidy is primarily aimed at homeowners who install a complete sustainable energy system (solar panels + battery + possibly heat pump). The benefit can be up to ā¬2,500 for a combined application.
Provinces such as Limburg, Overijssel, Friesland, Groningen, Drenthe, Flevoland, Utrecht and Zeeland also have various sustainability schemes. Availability and subsidy amounts change regularly. We recommend consulting your province's website or contacting the provincial energy desk for the most current information.
At municipal level, more and more programmes are subsidising home batteries. Municipalities play an increasingly important role in the energy transition and often offer additional financial support on top of national and provincial schemes.
More and more municipalities are including home batteries in their sustainability programmes. Check your municipality's website or contact the municipal energy desk to see which schemes are available in your area.

Don't have enough savings to pay for a home battery in one go? Through the National Heat Fund you can take out an attractive loan for energy-saving measures, including home batteries.
The Heat Fund loan is applied for through your municipality. Not all municipalities participate, but the vast majority do. Enquire with your municipality whether this option is available.
| Status 2026 | Component | Amount |
|---|---|---|
| Provincial | ā¬500 - ā¬2,500 | Varies by province |
| Municipal subsidy | Municipal | ā¬250 - ā¬1,500 |
| Varies by municipality | National Heat Fund | National |
The key to maximum financial benefit is smartly stacking subsidies. Most schemes are in fact combinable. Below is an example calculation for an average household.
Suppose you buy a 5 kWh all-in-one home battery for your property. The gross price including installation is ā¬4,500 (including 21% VAT). Here's how the calculation looks with all benefits:
In this example the net investment drops from ā¬4,500 to just ā¬1,720. With annual savings of approximately ā¬500 (from self-consumption of solar electricity) you'll have recouped the investment in 3 to 4 years. Read more about the costs and payback period of home batteries.
Important: Not all subsidies are available in all regions, and budgets run out. The above is an optimistic but realistic scenario. Always check current availability with RVO, your province and your municipality before making a purchase.
Applying for subsidies can seem overwhelming, but if you do it step by step, it's quite manageable. Here is a practical step-by-step plan:
Start by determining the right home battery for your situation. Use our savings calculator or read our article on which home battery suits you. Also request a no-obligation quote so you know the exact costs.
Before buying, inventory all available subsidies:
Purchase your home battery and have it professionally installed. Keep all invoices, installation reports and product specifications carefully. You'll need these for the subsidy application.
Submit your applications to the relevant agencies. Keep the following deadlines in mind:
After approval, the subsidy is paid into your account. This usually takes 4 to 12 weeks, depending on the scheme. Check that the correct amount has been transferred.
Request a quote and we'll happily help you map out all available subsidies for your situation.
Besides subsidies there are other ways to get extra value from your home battery. With a dynamic energy contract you can smartly respond to fluctuating energy prices. You charge your battery when electricity is cheap and use the stored energy when the price is high. This can yield hundreds of euros extra per year on top of subsidy savings.
Combining a home battery with solar panels and a dynamic contract maximises the return on your investment. You benefit from free solar electricity, low purchase prices and all available subsidies. This way you minimise your energy bill and recoup the investment fastest.
The ISDE subsidy requires professional installation, which means plug-and-play systems generally don't qualify. However, you do benefit from the 0% VAT rate if the battery is connected to solar panels. Some municipal schemes are less strict about the installation type. Check the conditions of your local scheme.
The ISDE subsidy is exclusively for owner-occupiers. Tenants may in some cases qualify for municipal schemes or benefit from collective projects through their landlord or housing association. The 0% VAT rate applies to everyone who has solar panels with a battery installed on a residence.
The ISDE subsidy has an annual budget that can run out. In 2025 the budget was already exhausted by autumn. The 0% VAT rate has been continued for now but could be adjusted in future years. Provincial and municipal schemes often have limited budgets distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. Our advice: don't wait too long and submit your application as soon as possible.
Yes, in most cases the subsidies are stackable. You can combine the ISDE subsidy with the 0% VAT rate, a provincial subsidy and a municipal scheme. The total subsidy generally may not exceed 100% of the purchase costs. In practice you'll rarely reach this maximum.
This differs per scheme. The ISDE subsidy is applied for afterwards (after installation). Some municipal subsidies must be applied for beforehand. Always inform yourself before making a purchase about the exact procedure, so you don't miss out on a subsidy due to the wrong sequence.
