The slender housing with a white glass front of the Backup Gateway contains the energy management and control unit of the Tesla Powerwall. The Backup Gateway 3P detects power outages and automatically switches to backup mode, thereby controlling the connection to the grid.

The electricity generation of the photovoltaic system and the current household consumption can be easily monitored in real time with the Tesla App. A backup/emergency power reserve can be set in the Tesla App. This allows the Tesla Powerwall owner to adjust the backup reserve at any time on their mobile device.
