How do you expand an existing sistema di batterie domestiche? Everything about modulare systems, compatibility, costs, and when upgrading makes sense.
You purchased a batteria domestica and are pleased with the savings. But your consumption is growing: perhaps you've bought an auto elettrica, had a pompa di calore installed, or your family has grown. The surplus energia solare you produce during the day no longer fits in your current batteria.
In that situation, you don't need to replace your entire system. Many batteria domestica brands offer modulare expansion: you simply add extra modulo batterias to your existing system. Faster, cheaper, and less wasteful.
Not all batterie domestiche are espandibile. The difference lies in the system design:
With a modulare system, you can add extra modulo batterias to your existing setup. The inverter and BMS support multiple modules. This is by far the most popular and cost-effective approach. Examples: Anker SOLIX Solarbank 2 (up to 4 modules, max 9.6 kWh), Dyness Tower (stackable up to 20 kWh), Pylontech Force H3 (up to 6 modules, max 17.5 kWh).
Some systems are not espandibile. They consist of a single fixed unit with a predetermined capacità. If you want more capacità, you need to add a second system in parallel or replace the existing system. This is more expensive and complex.

Here's an overview of the expansion options for the brands that HES sells:
| Brand / Model | Base capacità | Max. capacità | Expansion method |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sistema Anker SOLIX Solarbank 2 E1600 | 1.6 kWh | 4.8 kWh | Add extra batteria unit |
| Sistema Anker SOLIX Solarbank 2 Pro | 1.6 kWh | 9.6 kWh | Up to 6 extra batteria units |
| Sistema Anker SOLIX X1 | 5 kWh | 180 kWh | Moduli X1 aggiuntivi nel rack |
| Sistema Dyness Tower T10 | 10.24 kWh | 20.48 kWh | Stack extra module |
Most expansions are relatively straightforward: with plug & play systems you can do it yourself, while permanently wired systems require a short visit from an installatore.
Expansion is worthwhile in these situations:
Expanding is generalmente cheaper per kWh than the initial purchase, because you reuse the existing inverter, wiring, and installazione. You only pay for the extra modulo batteria(s).
An extra module for the Anker SOLIX Solarbank 2 costs circa €499-€699 (1.6 kWh per module). For the Dyness Tower, an extra module is around €1,500-€2,000 (5.12 kWh). The cost per kWh when expanding is tipicamente 20-30% lower than the initial purchase.
Keep the following in mind when expanding your system:
Expanding your batteria domestica is a smart and cost-effective way to increase your storage capacità. With modulare systems from brands like Anker SOLIX, Dyness, and Pylontech, you can easily add extra capacità — without replacing your entire system.
